After finishing her Diploma of Visual Arts with TAFE Loganlea, she explored large scaled artworks within her practice. Monique hopes to one day her artworks published in the public. In 2019, Monique will be furthering her studies with a Masters of Secondary Education at Griffith University in hope to become an art teacher in high school environment. Monique hopes to teach and inspire young people to encourage the love of visual arts.

Monique was born Christmas Day 1997 in Loganlea hospital. She grew up with two brothers and her parents Teresa and Stewart Vlaanderen. In 2008, Monique’s older brother Zachary, was diagnosed with non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and this event had a significant impact on her life and her art career. Whilst her brother was in hospital for many years, Monique started to learn how to sketch places, animals and people. This is when she realised her love for visual arts. Throughout high school, Monique explored different forms of art in her OP studies and her visual arts teacher inspired her to follow her dream to become a high school art teacher.

After graduating Year 12 at Browns Plains High School, Monique enrolled to study a Diploma of Visual Arts at TAFE Loganlea campus. From the diploma she went straight into second year of the bachelor’s degree. Currently, Monique is in her last stages of Bachelor and will be having her graduate exhibition late November 2018 and graduation ceremony in March 2019.
